You can't spell STYLE without STL.
You can go to Union Station and find a bevy of souvenir shops with St. Louis clothing and accessories marketed to tourists—you know, the kind you see on big-haired women with fanny packs and stretch pants. Those cliche t-shirts invariably feature an image of the Arch and say something like “St. Louis: Gateway to the West” or along those lines. But rarely did you ever see St. Louis gear designed for St. Louisans themselves.
So in the summer of 2001, we made it our mission to do just that. We came up with some slogans that reflected the quirky and unique character of our beloved old city, and we printed our early designs on t-shirts in a cold basement in Dogtown. At first we had no intention of marketing our products to anyone but ourselves and a few close friends. But the colloquial “Highway Farty” design, among others, struck a chord with a much bigger audience, and we received more requests for our t-shirts than we could handle. Two years later with an expanded budget, we enlisted the help of our good pal and graphic designer Kadie Foppiano, who is the artiste behind all the attractive logos we offer. We conjure up the ideas, Kadie puts them in motion.
Today, after six years in business, STL-Style has polished its act. With a small and dedicated team of friends, a fully functioning studio in Soulard, more than 20 t-shirt designs, a line of underwear, stickers, hats, childrens' apparel and additional products in the pipeline, we’re taking our love for the City of St. Louis to a whole new level. And we thank you for helping us get there.
For too long, this red brick mama has been overlooked, misjudged and underappreciated.
But today, a renewed spirit is emerging.
Inspired by our passion for the Gateway City, we’re doing our part to put the STL back in STyLe! Representing and embracing St. Louis’ local identity, we continue to keep the city’s soul connected to ours.
